About
the School
Tuckswood
Community First School is situated on the outskirts of Norwich
in a tree-lined estate just off the main Norwich-Ipswich Road.
Children usually transfer from Tuckswood Community First School
to South Harford Middle School at the age of eight.
Tuckswood
Community First School is a devolved LEA school for children
from 4+ - 8 yrs under the control of Norfolk Education Authority.
There are approximately 130 children on roll.
What
facilities are there?
The
School is a spacious single storey building with large airy
classrooms and well-organised craft areas adjoining each teaching
area. There is a large, well-equipped hall, and a library
area where, as well as normal use, Parent Courses and groups
take place. We have a small Medical Room, which is also used
for small groups of children working on basic skills, literacy
and philosophy sessions. It is kept free of display so as
not to distract the children from their focus. The lower Foyer
is a Parents' Area, where parents can wait in comfort for
their children, and find various useful information leaflets.
The school site includes a large playground, playing field
with trees a small garden area and terraces outside each classroom.
There is also a paddling pool.
Admission
Policy
Tuckswood
is a co-educational school serving mainly the Tuckswood Estate
and taking some children from the surrounding area. The classes
are of mixed ability and gender. In some cases they are mixed
age groups, although we keep our Reception children in a separate
Reception Class. At present the children are admitted at the
beginning of the Autumn Term in the year in which they are
five. Children born during September to February are admitted
full time from September. Children born from March to August
are admitted part time for the Autumn Term and may start full
time schooling after the Christmas Holiday if it is appropriate.
This is discussed with the parents.
We
organise the admittance of Reception children in Tuckswood
school in order to help each child settle well and become
comfortable and happy in school and to enable Reception staff
to get to know each child thoroughly in order to plan appropriate
learning programmes.
