During the February and May breaks, Saxon Way Primary School and Byron School hosted small holiday programmes involving 20 children, focusing on arts and crafts, games and sports.
The Easter holiday programmes at Woodlands Primary School and Brompton Westbrook Primary School focused on healthy life styles. Lucy Davis from the Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Diet (MEND) project delivered a session on healthy eating and the children participated in healthy food tasting. Also, a fitness trainer from the Black Lion Leisure Centre, run fitness profiles, which the children thoroughly enjoyed.
The Learning Mentors ran two summer holiday programmes this year: one at Byron Primary and one at Barnsole Junior School.
Robert Napier’s year 7 pupils enjoyed a day of bonding with their year 9 buddies who will support them during the new school term. MECP Learning Mentors and The Robert Napier Secondary School staff took 50 children to the John Nike Ski Centre, Capstone Road. The pupils were taken by coach to the ski centre and participated in a Ski lesson, tobogganing and tubing (sliding down the Ski Slope in a rubber tube) followed by a Barbeque. The Robert Napier Secondary School’s year 7 intake of pupils came from 21 feeder primary schools.
Byron Road Summer School Year 4 and year 5 pupils from Saxon Way, Burnt Oak and Byron School had the chance to take part in a week of fun activities.
18 children enjoyed a week of arts and crafts, trampolining at the Rebound Centre and picnics. Each child had the opportunity to make a mini-book, which could be decorated any way they wanted. The children then turned into racing drivers and created their own model cars.
During the creative week, the children also had the chance to make scoobies, coloured fridge magnets and badges. They also enjoyed baking cakes for their very own party.
