Senior Poetry
Workshop Students from Chatham Grammar School for Girls, New Brompton College and
The Robert Napier School attended a senior poetry writing workshop in March
2006, run by Ros Barber, a visiting poet.
Here are a few of their poems:
You think you know me but you really don’t.
You say you like me but I know you don’t.
You smile at me whilst you pretend to care,
I hate your smile, I hate your clothes, your hair.
I hate the way you whisper in my ear,
I hate the way you wipe away my tears.
I hate the way you try to hold my hand,
I hate the way you always understand.
You tell me that you like me but you lie.
You make me sad, you make me hurt and cry.
I hate the way that hating you’s not true,
I hate the way that I’m in love with you.
Jayde, Age 14
Here is a list of things I need,
When the world begins to bleed:
Shannon, Callie, Taylor – my nieces and nephew
Oh! I won’t forget my PS2.
My Gino Milano watch, my sense of self,
My Lucy Pinder posters.
My charmed collection on DVD; I won’t forget my widescreen TV.
I’ll take a dozen battery packs, fully charged;
I’ll stock up on pizzas, they’ll be extra large.
My MP3, my Hugo Boss collection,
My bathroom products – I have a selection.
These are the things I’ll need when the world ends,
But most importantly I’ll take family and friends.
Marc, Age 15
At first I tried to open up my eyes.
The sun comes through the window blinding me.
I hear a girl outside begin to cry,
I look for her but still I cannot see.
The birds outside my widow sing so loud,
But yet my heart is filling up with grief.
The sky above is filled with fluffy clouds.
The one I love is lying in a reef.
The people in the street appear so glad.
I walk around as if I’m in a dream.
I didn’t know that I could feel so sad.
The one I love is lying in a stream.
Sometimes I dream he will come back to me,
But in my heart I know it cannot be.
