Medway Excellence Cluster - Aiming for Excellence

KS1 Creative Writing Workshop

Year 2 children from Featherby and Twydall Infant Schools had great fun creating stories on computers around a character called “Brenchley Bear”.  The children had to think about building sentences using nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs to enable them to develop their writing ability.

Here are just some of the passages produced:

"Once in a house in a wood on top of a wardrobe lived a bear called Brenchley. He loves eating bacon sandwiches and likes reading the paper, going to the beach and looking at maps. The next Wednesday was the 30th of January. In the paper that day was something interesting, a new beach"

"Brenchley climbed the trees and pushed the bushes to get to the castle. The castle was made of silver and it had rubies and diamonds that glittered in the sun light. A princess was locked up! Brenchley tried to help."

"One windy day Brenchley Bear was sitting on the sofa and he thought that he was getting bored of sitting on the sofa and watching TV all day.  Brenchley got up off the sofa and got his coat.  He opened the door and went out side.  He ran up the road to the park and started to climb the climbing frame.  But at that moment he saw a swish of a tail. Brenchley wondered what was there. He went to have a look. He could not believe his eyes. It was a dragon."

"Brenchley was very excited because today he was going to play football with his friends. It wasn’t a very hot day so Brenchley put a thick jumper on. He took some water and a bacon sandwich. They all met up at the park, and they started warming up by doing exercises. Brenchley got very puffed out, but he did not mind because he was excited about football."
