The SEAL programme is a Personal Social Health Education (PSHE) programme developed by the DfES which comprises a set of resources with seven themes. Each theme is introduced by a whole school assembly. The themes are: New Beginnings; Getting on and falling out; Say no to bullying; Going for goals!; Good to be me; Relationships; and Changes. All themes are differentiated into the following sets: Foundation, Years 1 and 2, Years 3 and 4, Years 5 and 6. In addition, there are further materials supplied not only for class based activities, but small group and individual work as well.
The SEAL programme has now not only been taken on by all of the Cluster schools, but also by many other schools in Medway.
When asked about the merits of the SEAL programme and materials, one of the teachers in a Cluster school said;
“I think our session on 'worried and anxious' was the best in terms of getting children thinking about their feelings and how to manage them. The children learned that most people have worries and that some worries they can do something about, others they can't. They learned that some things they worry about are not likely to happen anyway”

On the 25th July 2006, the Excellence Cluster organised a drop in taster day for interested staff in Medway Schools. The day was well attended and was held at Woodlands Community Centre. A number schools, mostly those in the cluster, exhibited SEAL materials they use and have created.
Paul Relph, Senior Advisor from Medway Council also delivered a presentation on aspects of SEAL and its implementation within schools. Some of the display materials are show below:
