Level 1: Getting Started

This is a two-day training weekend for teachers, school-leaders classroom assistants and students interested in using Mantle of the Expert in learning environments across the Key Stages.

Run as a series of practice-based workshops, participants will be involved in a series of MoE frames - experiencing being inside the work. They will explore how to build imaginary worlds by using different teacher strategies, including: Dorothy Heathcote’s dramatic conventions, carefully selected language and non-interrogatory questioning.

Issues of planning and assessment will be considered during a planning workshop and there will be opportunities to design a Mantle of the Expert context for your own class with help from experienced users of the system.

Level 1 is for all new students of the system, from complete beginners to those who have already had a go and want to find out more.

Level 2: Consolidating

Using a range of Mantle of the Expert frames, participants will explore some of the more complex issues of the system. Including, building tension, sequencing for experience and signing.

Level 2 is suitable for educators with a background of practical experience in using MoE. The weekend will support a deeper understanding of the system and the way it can be used to create meaningful, exciting and affective learning experiences for children.

Level 3: Experienced Users

This level is for very experienced users of the system who have designed and developed extended Mantle of the Expert projects in a variety of different contexts.

The weekend will explore, through a series of frames, the use of multiple conventions and signs systems to work with children to develop emergent curriculum situations and experiences.

There will opportunities for participants to create and facilitate their own frames and dramatic sequences during the weekend.
